Lambunao ‘kap’ dies of COVID-19 complications

ILOILO – The village head of Barangay Daanbanwa, Lambunao, Iloilo died due to complications from coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Edgardo Gonzales, an immunocompromised patient, passed away Wednesday around 12 p.m. while being treated at the Iloilo Mission Hospital (IMH) in La Paz district.

Edgardo’s death was confirmed by his daughter Flordee on social media.

In an interview with Panay News, Vice Mayor Arvin Losaria of Lambunao disclosed that the patient had no history of travel to areas with COVID-19 cases and with no known exposure to a COVID-19-positive case.

“[Ang source of infection] ang amon karon nga ginausisa together with the Municipal Health Office (MHO) kay wala sia nagahalin sa iya barangay,” explained Losaria.

On Aug. 3, the barangay captain was admitted to the IMH after falling ill and immediately swabbed for COVID-19 test. He was found infected this week.

According to Losaria, the MHO already rolled out contact tracing to locate those who have possible exposure to the patient.

Lambunao has a total of 50 confirmed COVID-19 cases as of Sept. 3. Of the 50, four were active, 45 recovered and one died./PN
