ILOILO City – A 22-year-old resident of Barangay San Gregorio, Lambunao, Iloilo was found dead in his boardinghouse in Barangay Inday, City Proper in an apparent suicide by hanging.
His younger brother found the body of Dennis Lequip in the Flamingo Boardinghouse late Tuesday evening, stated a police report.
Investigators did not find any sign of struggle in the area where the body was found.
Called to respond, Iloilo City Emergency Response team personnel brought Lequip to the Iloilo Doctors’ Hospital in Molo district.
An attending physician pronounced Lequip “dead on arrival,” citing “asphyxia due to strangulation by hanging” as cause of death.
From what investigators have gathered, Lequip sent his 20-year-old brother Joshua a text message at around 10:09 p.m. stating he will commit suicide, stated the police report.
Joshua, who was staying in Barangay Bolilao, Mandurriao, went to the Flamingo Boardinghouse and looked for his brother.
He did not find Lequip in his room so he asked the boardinghouse caretaker the direction to the fourth floor.
There Joshua found Lequip hanging with a nylon rope tied around his neck and to the beam of the roof.
Joshua asked help from Lequip’s fellow tenants and some village watchmen to cut the nylon rope, the police report stated.
The Police Station 1 learned about the incident at around 11:05 p.m. via a phone call from a village councilperson.
As of this writing the body of Lequip was at the morgue of the Iloilo Doctors’ Hospital./PN
