MANILA – Six members of UAAP Season 84 women’s volleyball champions National University Lady Bulldogs, led by Guimarasnon Camille Lamina, were invited to join the national women’s volleyball team.

The Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) extended the invite to the Lady Bulldogs in a letter by President Ramon “Tats” Suzara to the NU, a copy of which was obtained by Panay News.

Aside from Lamina, also invited from the Lady Bulldogs were Jennifer Nierva, Mhicaela Belen, Alyssa Jae Solomon, Kamille Cal and Ivy Keith Lacsina.

The PNVF has also invited Lady Bulldogs head coach Ray Karl Dimaculangan to join the coaching staff of national team head coach Odjie Mamon and Edmund Souza de Brito.

This was not the first time Lamina has played for flag and country after becoming part of the Team Philippines that captured a gold medal in the 2019 ASEAN School Games.

But this will be her first time to be handled by Mamon and Souza de Brito, unlike her Lady Bulldogs teammates Nierva, Belen, Solomon, Cal and Lacsina.

Lamina’s inclusion to the national women’s volleyball team could be credited to her consistent ball distribution during the Lady Bulldogs’ historic 16-0 campaign in UAAP Season 84.

The solid rookie season of the former standout of Grace Baptist Academy in Buenavista, Guimaras led her to be named as the season’s Best Setter. She also won the same award during her junior years with the NU Lady Bullpups.

It was not clear, however, whether the school management has already responded to PNVF’s letter regarding the availability of the six Lady Bulldogs and coach Dimaculangan.

Negrense Alyssa Bertolano of the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons was earlier given a green light by her school to join the national women’s volleyball team./PN
