Land caretaker shot dead in Passi City

ILOILO – A 61-year-old caretaker of a large property was shot dead while having breakfast inside his home in Barangay Poblacion Ilawod, Passi City, around 9 a.m. yesterday, March 20.

The victim, identified as alias “Roger,” sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the shoulder. He was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician, according to Passi City police chief Lieutenant Colonel Benjie Lacrite.

Witnesses revealed that the gunman had breakfast at an eatery next to the victim’s house before carrying out the attack.

Several people at the eatery saw the suspect casually eating a bowl of pancit.

However, when he approached the victim’s house, he was already covering his face, according to witnesses aliases “Pidong” and “Nenita.”

They added that they had seen the suspect eating at their eatery at least twice before.

Roger was the caretaker of a 25-hectare property owned by the Javellana family in Passi City.

Initial police investigation indicates that the killing was carried out by two men on a motorcycle, who immediately fled in the direction of San Enrique town after the shooting.

Authorities were conducting a hot pursuit operation while also investigating the motive behind the attack and the identities of the suspects as of this writing./PN
