Land dispute possible motive in Malinao shooting incident

MALINAO, Aklan – A 31-year-old man was shot to death in Barangay Rosario, Malinao, Aklan on Friday, June 28.

Jeffrey “Dedong” Isuga Demandante, a resident of the town’s Sitio Mambog, Barangay Cabayugan, sustained a gunshot wound on his body. He was rushed to Aklan Provincial Hospital in Kalibo town but was declared dead on arrival.

Captain Christian John Nalangan, chief of the Malinao police staion, said the unidentified suspect fled after the shooting incident.

Police recovered spent shell casing of caliber .45 about 15 meters from the crime scene.

Nalangan said the victim’s companions narrowly escaped death in the tragic incident. They heard two gunshots while preparing dinner.

Jeffrey’s live-in-partner said they dropped to the ground and crawled for safety during the shooting.

As of this writing, Nalangan said they were investigating different angles behind the incident, including a land dispute.
