ILOILO City – Over 60 barangays in Western Visayas were inundated due to heavy rains brought by Tropical Depression (TD) Lannie.
In Capiz, flooding was reported in 47 villages: Mambusao – 11, Jamindan – six, Sigma – 10, Dumalag – two, and Panit-an – five.
In Iloilo City, 13 barangays were inundated, displacing at least 50 families.
Fifteen families composed of 58 individuals evacuated in Barangay Simon Ledesma; 12 families (25 individuals) in Barangay San Isidro and 23 families (81 individuals) in Barangay Cubay, all in Jaro district.
Other flooded barangays were Pali-Benedicto Zone 3, Q. Abeto and PHHC Block 17 in Mandurriao; Sinikway, Bo. Obrero and Loboc in Lapuz; Caingin, La Paz; Tanza Timawa Zone II and Flores in City Proper; and Bonifacio in Arevalo.
Residents sought shelter in schools, barangays halls and gymnasiums.
The City Social Welfare and Development Office provided rice and canned goods, blankets and sleeping mats to the affected families.
No casualty was reported.
Iloilo City’s Mayor Jerry Treñas earlier placed the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO)-Emergency Operation Center under “blue alert.”
Barangay disaster risk reduction and management committees also activated their operations centers.
On the other hand, a tornado in Zarraga, Iloilo left 15 houses partially damaged and two totally damaged, affecting 17 families composed of 62 individuals, the local government reported.
Several barangays in Leganes, Santa Barbara, Pototan, and San Enrique, among other towns were also flooded, forcing several families to flee their homes.
As of press time, Iloilo PDRRMO has yet to submit a situation report.
“Lannie” also halted seaports operations in Negros Occidental.
However, on Tuesday, the Philippine Coast Guard Western Visayas announced the resumption of “all inbound/outbound sea travel/trips” to Iloilo city and province.
In Antique, nine passenger boats in Semirara Island in Caluya were stranded.
Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 1 has already been lifted in areas across the region./PN
