BACOLOD City – One hundred fifty bags of larvicide were distributed to 61 barangays yesterday.
Mayor Evelio Leonardia and City Health Officer Ma. Carmela Gensoli led the distribution at the New Government Center annex.
A larvicide is a formula that kills mosquito larvae.
Some of the beneficiary barangays received two bags, while others got three, Gensoli said.
This year, Gensoli said, the City Health Office (CHO) recorded 1,434 cases of dengue and 12 deaths as of Wednesday.
The CHO held a symposium on proper larvicide application among representatives of the recipient barangays.
The distributed bags of larvicide were purchased using part of the P11.5 million city hall allotted for the dengue prevention and control program of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.
The city government bought 700 bags of larvicides called “Kiti-kiti X” from Mykl Trading, Inc. for P9 million, Bids and Awards Committee chairman Goldwyn Nifras disclosed.
Nifras said there was no bidding because the procurement was for an emergency need./PN
