Lea Salonga performs with ‘Once on this Island’ cast at prestigious Tony Awards

LEA Salonga returned to the Tony Awards stage last June 9 as she joined the cast of “Once On This Island.”

The cast members performed an excerpt from the musical, which bagged the trophy for Best Revival of a Musical in the prestigious award-giving body.

Prior to their performance, Lea mentioned on Twitter that this would be her fourth time on the Tony stage.

On June 9, she wrote, “I’ve been on the @TheTonyAwards stage a total of 3 times: first, to receive my Tony, second to perform in the opening number, and third to present. At this fourth time, I will be performing with the rest of the @OnceIslandBway cast.

“But, what makes this fourth time special is that this is the first time I’ll actually be on the Tony stage with my cast representing our Tony-nominated show!

“I wasn’t on stage performing with the company of Miss Saigon in 1991, and the other shows I was in the original casts of weren’t nominated. And I was a replacement in Les Miz, twice. So tomorrow will be very, very special. #FirstTimeForEverything”

On June 4, days before the Tonys, Lea won the Best Featured Actress in a Musical Award in the 2018 Theater Fans’ Choice Awards of BroadwayWorld for her performance in the musical.

Lea is cast as Erzulie, the goddess of love.

Once On This Island won the Best Revival of a Musical award in the said fan-based award-giving body, among other awards. (Pep.ph)
