ILOILO City – Mayor Jerry Treñas has underscored the importance of government leaders leading by example, ensuring that they always uphold the Constitution and adhere to the rule of law as the foundation of good governance.
In a recent statement, Treñas reiterated the commitment of local officials to collaborate with the national administration in implementing programs aimed at enhancing the lives of their constituents.
He also expressed hope that the ongoing issue between Vice President Sara Duterte and President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. would be resolved constructively, grounded in the principles of the Constitution and the rule of law.
Treñas called on all leaders to continue supporting the administration’s vision for a progressive and developed Philippines, emphasizing the need for unity and adherence to legal processes.
“It is crucial, especially in times of political differences at the national level, to prioritize stability and unity for the welfare of the Filipino people,” he stressed.
In addition, Treñas reflected on the transformative progress Iloilo City has made during his tenure, expressing gratitude for the support of the Marcos administration.
Treñas earlier announced that he would not seek a final term as Iloilo City mayor. Instead, he has endorsed his daughter, Raisa Treñas-Chu, as his successor.
The mayor also highlighted the completion of the Jalaur River Multipurpose Project II as one of the most significant achievements of his administration.
He emphasized that this project will have a lasting impact on every Ilonggo family, providing a sustainable water supply, boosting agricultural productivity, and driving economic development. According to Treñas, the Jalaur River project is key to improving the quality of life for the people of Iloilo City, addressing both immediate and long-term needs of the community.
Treñas also pointed to the groundbreaking of the Panay-Guimaras-Negros (PGN) Bridge as another major milestone of his administration.
He emphasized that this vital infrastructure project reflects the government’s commitment to improving regional connectivity and fostering unity across the islands.
Treñas explained that the PGN Bridge will not only ease travel and facilitate trade but will also open up new opportunities, benefiting future generations of Ilonggos by enhancing access to economic and social opportunities across the region.
“As I near the end of my term, I am proud to witness the lasting legacy of these big-ticket projects—initiatives that directly enhance the quality of life for every Ilonggo family,” he said.
“I assure every Ilonggo that these efforts will continue, and with your support and unity, we will keep moving forward together,” the mayor added.
Treñas concluded by expressing gratitude to President Marcos Jr. and his administration for their invaluable contributions to Western Visayas, particularly through projects like the Jalaur River Multipurpose Project II and the Panay-Guimaras-Negros (PGN) Bridge.
He called for continued collaboration and mutual support between local and national governments, emphasizing that it is through such unity that progress can be ensured for every corner of Iloilo City and beyond./PN
