Leadership dispute rocks Yanson-owned bus firms

BACOLOD City – “There is nothing irregular in the board’s decision.”

This was the reaction of Roy Yanson’s legal team after his younger brother Leo Rey questioned his appointment as new president of their family’s five bus companies.

On Monday, the bus companies’ board of directors released the appointment papers of Roy as new head of their operations.

Roy will now oversee Vallacar Transit Inc., Mindanao Star Bus Transit Inc., Sugbo Transit Inc., Rural Transit Inc., and Bachelor Express Inc.

Leo Rey does not recognize the actions of his siblings – Roy, Emily, Ma. Lourdes, and Ricardo Jr. – in the board.

He stressed that the special meeting on July 7 in this city “illegally removed” him as president.

“The actions of the four individuals (siblings) did not comply with the requirements of the corporation code and the company’s bylaws,” Leo Rey said.

He also accused Roy of bringing in armed men inside the company, thereby sowing fear among employees.

“The de facto president will surely hamper the operation of the company and spread confusion among the employees,” Leo Rey added.

Roy’s legal counsel, meanwhile, reiterated that the change in leadership in the bus companies was “completely legal and compliant under the bylaws and statute of the corporation.”

“In fact, all the board’s actions carried a unanimous approval of all those present constituting the quorum,” said Shiela Sison, one of Roy’s legal counsels.

She explained that the members of the board are composed of six members, and four directors were present during the meeting to constitute a quorum.

Sison also assured the riding public that there will be no disruptions in the bus firm’s operation./PN
