LeBron and Maria

IT’S FRIDAY so let’s tickle your funny bone and have a laugh at the expense of these two quite prominent personalities.

By LeBron we, of course, mean National Basketball Association (NBA) basketball player LeBron James, lately of the Los Angeles Lakers.

By Maria, we do not mean the lovely and captivating Maria Ozawa, the object of most men’s sexual fantasies, but the rather plain and boring with absolutely-no- sex-appeal Maria Ressa, chief executive officer of that blog site pretending to be an online news site, Rappler.

Most of you folks might not be aware of the fact that these two seemingly opposite individuals coming from totally different worlds have a lot of things in common. For starters, both LeBron and Maria are American citizens.

Both have received numerous awards in their supposed field of expertise although LeBron’s awards are truly deserving and he earned them by literally sweat and hard physical efforts in plain view throughout his NBA career.

Meanwhile, Maria Ressa’s awards, perhaps just as numerous as LeBron’s, are all perceived by most discerning folks as highly spurious and taken with a grain of salt.

It is widely believed that these awards of Maria Ressa were given by her financiers to somehow cloak her in “credibility” as it is a given fact that she is a convicted criminal. She was recently convicted of libel for maligning a private individual. For this, she is facing jail time. Aside from this, a string of tax evasion cases has also been filed against her.

And speaking of awards, it seems that LeBron James has been nominated for the “Oscars” for his “theatrical performance” as the “Drama Queen of the NBA”. He has “out-flopped” Brazilian footballer Neymar Jr. (lately of Paris Saint-Germaine Football Club) as the top contender. And considering that Neymar Jr. is out of the French Ligue1 competition with an injury, the “Oscars” trophy will definitely be LeBron’s for the taking.

And the other thing in common for these two seemingly different personalities is “respect”, rather the lack of it. Throughout LeBron’s entire basketball career despite winning three NBA championships, two Olympic and one FIBA gold medals – and several MVPs to name some – he just can’t seem to get the respect, say in the same level as one Michael Jordan.

As basketball great Magic Johnson said, “LeBron James is a great basketball player, probably the best all-around player. But when you want to say who’s the greatest ever, it’s still Michael Jordan.”

On the other hand, Maria Ressa is considered by most journalists as a joke. That’s not even funny. At best she is just a tool, a propaganda mouthpiece of her foreign financiers who wanted to bring down the Duterte government.

Maria Ressa is best known for saying that “press freedom and democracy is dead in the Philippines” in a presscon that she organized herself with foreign and local media in attendance and also in rallies, which makes one wonder how she can say those things if press freedom and democracy is dead.

She even has the temerity to say that the Philippines is a “war zone” from her posh office in a high-end building in Ortigas District.

I supposed it must be life threatening to go to SM Megamall or the Podium and Shangri-La Mall as you dodge bullets and landmines just to get your Frappuccino in Starbucks.

It seems Maria Ressa has received almost all awards there is known to modern man, from being the “sexiest woman alive” in 2010 from Esquire magazine to Time magazine’s  100 Most Influential People in the World in 2019. Now it seems she is being nominated for the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize.

Considering that she is the “darling” of the western media and her foreign financiers who, by the way, are also the big donors of these award bodies, I have no doubt that she will also win the Nobel Peace Prize.

Now all that’s missing in Maria Ressa’s awards is the Grammy Awards, the Oscars. Maybe if the Tokyo Olympics will push through in July 2021 and she joins, she might win a gold medal either in gymnastics or synchronized swimming.

Its good thing and luck on the side of Rabiya Mateo that Maria Ressa did not join the Miss Universe Philippines 2020 contest, otherwise she would have lost miserably to Maria Ressa.

“Sexiest Woman Alive”, my foot. Suddenly I want to puke!/PN
