BACOLOD City – Task Force Crusaders is ready to assist the police in legal matters that may arise in their antidrug campaign.
The unit of the Office of the Solicitor General expressed support to the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) war on drugs.
Deputy Commander John Chiong believes this will boost the officers’ morale.
“Kon may mabunggò sila nga dalagko nga tawo sa illegal drugs, ara kami ma-support. Ara gid kami legally,” said Chiong, a Bacolodnon.
The task force wrote Director General Ronald dela Rosa, PNP chief, on Oct. 21 to say it is behind the police’s antidrug drive.
“Makarekta kami inform sa solicitor general kon ano na ang status sang mga police sa mga kaso nga i-file sang pihak nga grupo da,” Chiong said.
He stressed the police need public support to embolden them to go after high-value drug targets.
“Lalo pa subong, [the] Cuadra [case] was dismissed for lack of merit,” said Chiong.
The Department of Justice is looking into the case.
Gerard Cuadra, 38, was caught here on May 27. Suspected shabu amounting to P1.5 million, drug paraphernalia, and several firearms and ammunition were seized from him.
On May 30 he was charged with violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 and the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
Regional Trial Court judges Eduardo Sayson (Branch 54) and Therese Blanche Bolunia (Branch 47) dismissed the charges due to “insufficient evidence.”
Cuadra’s father, Jose Kim “Boy,” was convicted of drug trafficking in July 2006 and serving a life sentence at the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City./PN
