ILOILO – The Sangguniang Bayan (SB) of Pavia is requesting legislators of the city and province of Iloilo to make representation in Congress to conduct a legislative inquiry in aid of legislation regarding the defective Ungka flyover in Barangay Ungka II and the delayed construction of the Aganan flyover in Barangay Aganan, both in Pavia.
On Monday morning, Dec. 12, during the SB regular session, SB member Jose Maria “Pyt” Trimañez introduced two resolutions on this unanimously approved by all SB members present.
The first resolution called out Iloilo City Lone District’s Cong. Julienne Baronda, 1st District’s Cong. Janette Garin, 2nd District’s Cong. Michael B. Gorriceta, 3rd District’s Cong. Lorenz Defensor, 4th District’s Cong. Ferjenel Biron, 5th District’s Cong. Raul Tupas, Uswag Ilonggo party-list’s Cong. James Ang, AAMBIS-OWA’s Cong. Lex Anthony Colada, and Kabataan party-list’s Cong. Raoul Manuel.
The second resolution requested the Philippine Councilors League (PCL) – Iloilo chapter headed by Ramon Sullano to pass a resolution asking, too, the said legislators to make representation in Congress for an inquiry on the Ungka and Aganan flyovers.
Explained Trimañez, Pavianhons have long been inconvenienced by the delay in the construction and opening of the two flyovers, and worse, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has not issued updates.
“Nagapangabay kami nga tani mangin transparent man ang ahensya sang gobyerno nga nagapatuman sang sini nga project. The Ilonggos deserve better. Kita nga mga taxpayers amo ni ang ginalauman naton nga makasolbar sang problema sa kada adlaw, ilabi na gid kon traffic dira sa Aganan and Ungka,” said Trimañez, SB committee on transportation chairperson, in an interview with Panay News.
He hopes that the Ilonggo solons would respond positively to the SB resolution.
Pavia SB members want to be enlightened on the root cause of the Ungka flyover’s problem and when will it become safe for public use.
Cong. Gorriceta welcomes the resolution passed by the SB members of Pavia. He said he will wait for the official copies of the resolutions and will be discussing it with his fellow Ilonggo solons.
PCL – Iloilo president Sullano, meantime, said he will wait for the official copies of the resolutions.
Three weeks ago the 14th Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) of Iloilo province passed a resolution requesting the DPWH central office to take cognizance on the repair of the Ungka flyover.
“Nakapasar na kami sang resolution sa SP addressed sa DPWH and sa mga congressmen naton diri nga mag-take cognizance or ma-intervene,” Sullano told Panay News.
Pavia mayor Laurence Anthony “Luigi” Gorriceta, on the other hand, has vested the decision to the municipality’s SB members.
“Ti, kon resolution may leeway gid na sila kon ano ila pasaron or ano ila measure dira, so I leave it to them ang resolution nga ina,” said the mayor.
As a local chief executive, Gorriceta said since last week of September, when the Ungka flyover was closed to the public, he sent a letter to Bonoan requesting for intervention and to take charge of the matter./PN
