MANILA – Sen. Leila de Lima just shrugged off the filing of a disbarment case against her calling the complainants “clowns.”
The Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC), former National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) officials and whistleblower Sandra Cam last Friday filed a case for disbarment against de Lima based on gross immoral conduct.
They accused the senator and former Justice secretary of having an illicit affair with a married man. A copy of her and her driver-bodyguard’s alleged sex video was also attached to the complaint.
Under Section 27 of the Rules of Court, the Supreme Court may disbar and suspend attorneys on the following grounds:
*deceit;
*malpractice;
*gross misconduct;
*grossly immoral conduct;
*conviction of a crime;
*any violation of the oath which he is required to take before the admission to practice; and
*wilful disobedience appearing as attorney for a party without authority.
“This is all part of a circus. And just like in all circuses, clowns are part of the amusement,” de Lima said.
The lady solon urged Dante Jimenez, head of VACC, to investigate instead the number of unresolved killings related to President Rodrigo Duterte’s anti-drug war.
Jueteng whistleblower Sandra Cam and former National Bureau of Investigation deputy directors Reynaldo Esmeralda and Ruel Lasala are “shady characters” and should not be trusted, she added.
“They are all just being used by the master puppeteer and vice versa. They are also using Duterte’s obssession with my destruction to enable themselves, by currying favor with the President, and in doing so attempt to stay relevant despite the banality of their role in all of this circus. The role of the three can be more accurately compared to the circus act of performing monkeys,” said de Lima.
Earlier, the House of Representatives investigated the alleged involvement of de Lima in the illegal drug trade at the national penitentiary. The senator was accused of receiving millions in drug money from high-profile inmates for her bid in the last senatorial elections./PN
