ILOILO – Vice President Leni Robredo denied being a part or even leading an alleged plan to topple President Rodrigo Duterte.
During a visit here yesterday, she said ousting the President won’t bring any good to the country.
Criticisms on the Duterte administration should not be equated with plotting to oust the President, said Robredo, who led the launching of three partnership projects under the Angat-Buhay Program in Lambunao, Iloilo.
Lambunao is the program’s pilot area and one of the 50 adopted local government units in the country that comprised the poverty alleviation program’s first batch of beneficiaries.
“Yung sa akin po, ang pag-criticize ay ang pagnanais na pakinggan tayo ng ating Pangulo tungkol sa mga bagay we feel so strongly about gaya ng extrajudicial killings,” Robredo explained.
The President’s campaign against illegal drugs is being blamed for the spate of killings across the country, with the casualties reaching over 6,000 already.
“Hindi ako pabor na kung hindi gusto ng mga tao ang isang Pangulo ay patalsikin na ito sa kapangyarihan, dahil hindi ito makakabuti para sa bansa natin,” said Robredo.
She never joined any rally against the President, she stressed.
“Wala po katotohan. Wala po akong sinalihan na kahit anong rally. In fact, I was invited to the Nov. 25 and Nov. 30, 2016 rally against the burial of former President (Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani) pero hindi po ako sumali in deference sa Pangulo natin dahil miyembro ako dati ng Cabinet,” Robredo said.
Marcos’ hero’s burial had the approval of Duterte. It was his promise to the Marcos family that supported his presidential bid last year.
In a recent interview after Christmas, Duterte he said Robredo was part of the rallies seeking to oust him.
“Ang problema is si Leni nakikita ko sa rally,” Duterte said. “Ano ‘yun? Ngayon nakikita kita sa rally na magpapatalsik sa akin, then the next day you will come here in Malacañang and greet me good morning.”
The President was misinformed, said Robredo.
The Vice President resigned from the Duterte Cabinet on Dec. 4, 2016 after receiving a text message from Cabinet Secretary Jun Evasco Jr. relaying Duterte’s instructions through his executive assistant Bong Go for her “to desist from attending all Cabinet meetings” starting Dec. 5, 2016.
Robredo quit as chairperson of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council.
“Itong alleged oust-Duterte plot siguradong hindi ako kasali kung meron man talagang ganyan na plano,” she stressed. “Ang pag-criticize o pagpuna hindi ‘yun tantamount to tanggalin s’ya.”/PN
