BACOLOD City – The City Health Office (CHO) has been urged to conduct a prevention drive against leptospirosis.
CHO data as of July 8 showed 48 cases with five deaths.
The deaths were logged in barangays Taculing, Banago, Villamonte, Handumanan and Bata.
On Wednesday, the Sangguniang Panlungsod requested the CHO to conduct an information dissemination campaign.
Leptospirosis is an infectious disease of humans and animals caused by pathogenic spirochetes of the genus Leptospira. One becomes infected through direct contact with the urine of infected animals or with a urine-contaminated environment.
Those who had contact with possibly contaminated water are encouraged to immediately go to their nearest health center or private medical doctor for prophylaxis./PN
