BACOLOD City – This year’s MassKara Festival participants may expect a higher subsidy, although it comes with higher performance standards.
“This year, we are giving P750,000 to each barangay joining in the Street and Arena Dance Competition with the expectation, of course, that performances will be even grander,” said Mate Espina, public relations head of the festival organizer, Bacolod Yuhum Foundation (BYF).
Last year, each participating barangay received a P500,000 subsidy – P300,000 from the foundation and P200,000 from the city government.
Participants in the Electric MassKara Dance Competition, now called MassKara Elektrika Diva and Electric Float Parade Competition, would each receive P300,000 this year compared to last year’s P150,000.
The city government will provide all of the subsidies for the contingents, Councilor Jason Villarosa, chair of the Sangguniang Panlungsod Committee on Tourism, disclosed.
Prizes for the 2022 edition of the festival was provided by both the city and the organizer.
The BYF earlier announced it would take measures to avoid financial losses.
“We will limit the number of entrants this year to 10 but with the promise that it will even be bigger, brighter, better and bolder,” said Espina in a press presentation on Saturday, Aug. 26.
Last year, there were 17 participants in the Street Dance and Arena Competition and 14 in the Electric MassKara.
