ILOILO City – Mayor Jerry P. Treñas one again appealed to the public to follow health protocols and avoid non-essential travel.
Treñas reiterated this as Iloilo City recorded another 40 COVID-19 cases on May 2. As of May 3, the city logged a total of 370 COVID-19 active cases.
“I call on everyone not to lose sight of the present situation…We do not want to overwhelm our health facilities with cases just like what is happening in the NCR, and other places in the country and the world,” said Treñas.
According to Treñas, officials will study the cases this week and align the protocols based on recorded numbers. He warned that an increase in cases is expected in the succeeding days, while contact tracing and testing continue.
“We are requesting everyone to continue to follow the minimum health standards to avoid further transmission.” The City Epidemiological Surveillance Unit noted that most of the cases are workplace and community transmissions.
In a virtual press conference yesterday, Dr. Bea Natalaray, Department of Health (DOH) Region 6 Medical Officer IV, said Iloilo City and Capiz are at moderate risk of COVID-19. DOH-6 data showed an 11 percent growth in cases in Iloilo city within the past two weeks, compared to numbers from the previous two weeks. Natalaray explained that the risk classification of an area is based on a two-week growth rate and its average daily attack rate. Aklan, Antique and Negros Occidental are classified as low risk, while Guimaras and Iloilo are on minimal risk./PN
