MANILA – New weapons are coming to Colegio de San Juan de Letran Knights for their title defense in the National Collegiate Athletic Association Season 96 men’s basketball early next year.

Knights head coach Bonnie Tan revealed transferees Joseph Brutas, Kenny Rogers Rocacurva and center Jay Pangalanan are set to swear allegiance to the powerhouse team.

The 21-year-old Brutas was a dependable scorer for the Universities and Colleges Basketball League champions Diliman College Dragons while Rocacurva previously saw action for the Cebu Institute of Technology.

Pangalanan, on the other hand, was supposed to represent the College of St. Benilde Blazers in Season 95 but opted to transfer to Letran.

The three are expected to fill the void left by Philippine Basketball Association-bound players Jerrick Balanza of the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings and Christian Balagasay and Edson Batiller of the Columbian Dyip.

Aside from them, the Knights will also have additional arsenal in its rotation.  Six-foot-six center Christian Fajarito will make a comeback after skipping last season to play in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League.
“We lost three of our veterans but we’re still blessed (because) we still have players from last year and some new ones who (will) help us defend out title when the season starts,” Tan said.

Basketball is one of the four mandatory sports that will be played in Season 96 which is set to be hosted by Letran. The other sporting events are volleyball, swimming and track and field./PN
