ILOILO City – It is not enough to do “business as usual”; city hall departments and offices should shape up, be very focused and reinvigorated in carrying out their tasks, Iloilo City’s Mayor Jerry P. Treñas stressed.
Come 2023, the city mayor said the focus is to strengthen the bureaucracy by helping each department at city hall produce output beneficial to the people.
“Ang obra sa gobyerno indi lang pirme nga mapamatay ka sang kalayo. Kis-a waay kalayo. Kon waay ka man patyon nga kalayo, kundi matanom ka man kag magpamunyag. You have to come up with quantifiable factors, nga makita ta nga may inobrahan ka,” said Treñas.
“We will be more accessible to everyone,” he added.
During Monday’s flag raising ceremony, Treñas reminded city hall employees of their respective roles and tasks that must have unity of purpose, sense of urgency and accelerated implementation.
“Kinanglan may unity of purpose kag may ara kita sense of urgency. Ang tanan obrahon ta para matapos ta ang kinahanglanon naton para sa aton syudad. Kung kis-a pabuyan-buyan lang ta, nalipatan ta duha na ka bulan, tatlo na ka bulan, waay pa naton naobra ang aton obra,” said Treñas.
“Ngaa paobra ta ang mga plaza ta? Markets ta? Kag iban pa nga projects? Kay, ti, there is always a sense of urgency sa aton. Very limited resources but we can do so much,” he stressed.
The city mayor, meantime, expressed elation and commended departments and offices which were able to receive awards – a manifestation that they are performing.
“Sa iban nga departments nga waay pa kamo award, siguro may gina-obra man kamo. Ambot lang,” he added.
According to the city mayor, in January 2023 he would want all departments and offices of the city to tell everyone about their plans.
“Para proud man sila. We want them to be proud of what they have done and what they plan to do,” the city mayor said.
Treñas noted that the city government has been engaging with different partners to improve the services of the city and spur growth.
For one, he cited the city government’s partnership with the Institute of Solidarity in Asia (ISA), a non-profit organization committed to transforming the public sector.
“We are engaging different partners… Indi na pwede nga business usual. It has to be very focused kag reinvigorated ang pagplastar naton. Ang thrust sang Iloilo City subong is really to help ang aton mga pigado nga pumuluyo,” Treñas underscored as he cited various projects of the city government such as the dialysis centers, center for the mentally-ill, nutrition center, off-site centers, ICARE, among others./PN
