LEZO, Aklan – Mayor Mary Lenette Fernandez placed the town hall in Barangay Poblacion on lockdown beginning Jan. 4.
A town hall employee contracted coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
The lockdown will be until Jan. 8.
The town hall would be disinfected.
The COVID-19-positive employee was taken to the municipal quarantine facility while “high-risk contacts” were swabbed for reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction tests.
Fernandez reminded residents to observe health safety protocols to contain the spread of the coronavirus such as wearing facemask, observing physical distancing and proper hand washing.
“Refrain from unnecessary travels. Refrain from conducting or attending social gatherings,” said the mayor.
As of Jan. 4, Lezo’s COVID-19 cases reached 29 (cumulative figure), with one death.
Seven cases have so far recovered.
Meanwhile, the capital town of Kalibo reported two COVID-related fatalities – a 64-year-old male and a 61-year-old female both from Barangay Andagao.
The woman died on Dec. 28, 2020 while the man died just this Jan. 3./PN
