KALIBO, Aklan – The bridge project deemed to spur rural development in Libacao, Aklan has received support from the Office of the Presidential Assistant for Visayas (OPAV).

The proposed bridge will connect Barangay Poblacion and Barangay Magugba over the Aklan River.

Mayor Charito Navarosa said the bridge project, once completed, will give an all-season access to residents and will especially benefit farmers in barangays Agmailig, Can-awan, Bato-Bato, and Magugba.

The proposed bridge will allow them to transport their agriculture products easily.

Access to government facilities and services will also be faster upon the completion of the proposed bridge.

Assistant Secretary Gerald Anthony Gonzales of the OPAV said they are committed to support community interconnectivity projects.

Currently, the farmers are facing risks as they transport their goods through the Aklan River on board wooden boats.

According to Navarosa, crossing the river is hard especially when it swells due to flooding.

“But once the bridge is constructed, jeepneys and tricycles are expected to ply routes to interior barangays of Libacao,” he added.

Navarosa stressed that the municipal government is developing the abaca industry in the town.

Nakafocus tayo sa paggawa ng kalsada at tulay,at sapagdevelop ng abaca industry sa Libacao. Tuloy-tuloy nating magagawa ito kung lahat tayo ay nasa isang direksyon,” he said.

Gonzales said OPAV is willing to extend assistance for the thriving abaca industry in Libaco.

Libacao,  a third-class municipality with a population of about 28,000, is 31 kilometers away from Aklan’s capital town Kalibo. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
