Light musings

IT DOES seem irreverent; call it out of taste and off-tangent to make light of this dreadful chapter in our history. The fear of infection and the greater fear of the inadequacy of our health services. And worse, the intractable fact: there is no known cure or vaccine. So, it’s who lives, who dies.

C’est la vie. But bound in the nature of the Filipino is the bahala namovement…in the face of death and atrocity…he laughs at himself – louder at others.

The point is: While breathes this man, let us not allow this virus to degrade us to shivering cowards who cower in the darkness of our homes. Let us take heart and confront the challenge. We have a great and abiding faith in the Almighty who loves and cares for us…and defend us in the day of battle and protect us from all evil, virulence and demons that wander through this world for the ruin of souls.”

Having said so…banish that fear. Man is a strong and noble creature. We should be brave and stalwart for we are in the warmth of God’s hands. Amen.

But do spare asking God too much. Some of our brothers have greater need and in far worse condition. Let us just be careful. Remember, God helps those who help themselves…sounds like the battle cry of looters.

Don’t ever forget to wear your facemasks. If Mayor Jerry ever catches you, he’ll punch you. So, with your facemask on, they won’t notice if you have brushed your teeth or have broken teeth. At least better than President Digong who will kill you.

And always observe social distancing…at least six feet away…unless the woman is beautiful.

A Lessor, who owns a commercial building, carried two letters; one, from his Lessee and the other, from him…for legal evaluation.

The Lessee wrote: “Sir. In view of the worldwide pandemonyom, which has affected all of us, internationally and local, please kindly condom my February, March, April and May, 2020 lease rentals.”

The Lessor wrote back: “Yes. You may not pay the February, March, April and May, 2020 lease rentals, to show my sympathy with the pandemonyo. But you are in arrears for two years and six months, thus, consider this as a Demand for Payment in the amount of P150,000 within 10 days, otherwise, I will eject you from the premises.”

CLIENT: Was I right, Atorni?

LAWYER:  Have you paid the consultation fee of P500?

CLIENT: Yes.

LAWYER: Of course, you are absolutely within your legal rights.

By the way, when you leave, please pay the P200 exit fee…that is for the alcohol, Zonrox, soap and disinfectant. Also, change your face mask. I can see your teeth gnashing.

Two 88-year-old man and woman were at a home for the aged.

The man said: “We have known each other for more than 20 years and if I am to die of COVID, I want you to know that I love you and will you marry me?”

The woman said: “Yes, I will. We’ll talk about this tomorrow.”

The next day, at the breakfast table, the man said: “My gosh, I forgot. Did I tell you yesterday that I love you and want to marry you and you said yes?”

The woman replied: It’s good you told me. I forgot the man I agreed to marry!”

Lighten up your hearts and brighten the day with a smile. Find time to thank and salute the breaking dawn. Embrace a bit of sunlight from God. Stay healthy in mind and body. Play with the maid.

Eat fruits; lechon, vitamin C and lemons…with gin, gin tonic, is 91 percent proof alcohol. No virus can stand it….neither can you./PN
