ROXAS City – A lightning struck Barangay Dayao here on Saturday afternoon. A construction worker died while five colleagues sustained burns.
The fatality was 24-year-old Ronel Arinque of Barangay Barra. He died while being rushed to the Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital.
On the other hand, the following underwent treatment in the hospital: Remuel Francisco, 30, of Barangay Adlawan; Constancio Cabredo, 53, of Barangay Tanque; Mac-mac Deodoco, 39, of Barangay Barra; Segay Dela Cruz, 23, of Barangay Tanque; and Raynord Resolis, 45, of Barangay Bolo.
That Saturday afternoon there was a thunderstorm. The six construction worker took shelter in a makeshift tent.
A lightning strike or lightning bolt is an electric discharge between the atmosphere and the ground.
Most originate in a cumulonimbus cloud and terminate on the ground, called cloud-to-ground (CG) lightning.
