BACOLOD City – The town mayor of Murcia, Negros Occidental will meet with restobar owners about the proposal to limit their operating hours.

The municipal police chief, Major Mark Joel Reclamado, made the proposal following a brawl which left an off-duty cop and two civilians dead.

In a radio interview over Bombo Radyo-Bacolod, Mayor Gerry Rojas said he would also issue an executive order requiring all restobars to have closed-circuit television cameras and security guards.

Security guards will be searching bargoers for deadly weapons and ensure that their operating hours would only be until 12 midnight, Rojas added.

Rojas also said he would look into all options available to address other recent high-profile crimes in the town.

On Friday, March 31, around 1 a.m., Police Corporal Gabby Castillo was stabbed multiple times in a brawl he tried to pacify.

Also killed were civilians Benedict Maguad and Marvin Guardavilla.

Meanwhile, Police Staff Sergeants Namilou Sapuan and Jaytie Misme and bar owner Fernando Diaz were wounded.

Three suspects were identified — Marjun Gallano, Junjie Gallano and Venus Grace Catbagan.

On the same day, town police also recovered the remains of an unidentified man in Barangay Damsite.

On March 15, a sack containing human bones was also recovered in the same area, and police have yet to say if the incidents were connected./PN
