ILOILO – The provincial government is set to launch its province-wide convergence cleanup drive dubbed “Limpyo Iloilo.”
The campaign aims for the following:
* harmonize and strengthen local and national cleanup initiatives and waste reduction strategies;
* reduce littering, throwing and illegal dumping of wastes along roads, plazas, waterways and other public places;
* boost the spirit of volunteerism and social harmony in the province
Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. recently called for a convergence meeting with municipal mayors, national government agencies, and non-government organizations to finalize the campaign.
“Limpyo Iloilo” will be officially launched on Feb. 21 and will be conducted every third Saturday of the month.
It will be spearheaded by the Provincial Government Environment and Natural Resources Office (PGENRO).
Other partners include the academe, people’s organizations, religious organizations, business sectors, youth organizations, and cooperatives, among others.
Defensor said he wants Iloilo to gain the identity as “a clean province.” He sought for the commitment of project partners, particularly schools in the campaign.
“We want to institutionalize the habit of cleaning our premises. And this is actually just a conscious implementation of the laws and regulations that have something to do with solid waste management,” he said.
The provincial government has previously launched several cleanup initiatives amid the dengue scare last year. These included the Brigada Eskwela Kontra Dengue; province-wide cleanup drive held every Saturday which lasted for a month; and the one-day cleanup of the entire Capitol premises.
