Liquor ban starts Sunday

ILOILO City – The Commission on Elections’ (Comelec) election-related liquor ban will start on May 8 until the polls end on May 9.

Under Comelec Resolution No. 10746, drinking in public places is prohibited.

Hotels, resorts, restaurants, and other establishments are not allowed to sell, furnish, offer, buy, serve, or take intoxicating liquor.

Foreign tourists are exempted from the liquor ban, according to the Comelec, but hotels, resorts, restaurants, and other establishments that cater to foreign tourists will only be allowed to operate if they have a prior written authority from election officers in their areas.

Violators of the liquor ban faces imprisonment  of not less than one year but not more than six years and shall not be subject to probation.

In addition, the guilty party shall be disqualified to hold public office and deprived of the right of suffrage.

“Madali man lang ang liquor ban. We must follow Comelec. Whoever makita sang aton pulis nga naga inom sa higad dalan kag other public places will be arrested. Establishments selling liquor will be sanctioned,” said Police Lieutenant Colonel Solis, spokesperson of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6)./PN
