LIVING Stones International School barged to the semifinals of the 2018 Brother’s Cup Volleyball Tournament with a 25-14, 25-20 win over University of St. La Salle on Friday at the University of St. La Salle Gym in Bacolod City.

Led by Marite Espina, Cassie Carballo and Krisha Cordero, Living Stones displayed its pristine offense and defense in two sets to cap off the elimination round with a 3-3 win-loss card.

Meanwhile Bacolod Tay Tung High School snapped its two-game skid with a 25-5, 25-18 domination over Don Bosco Victorias to make it to the semifinals.

Living Stones surged to an early lead in the opening set with Cordero and Espina anchoring the offense. Errors from USLS followed by hits from Carballo and Aya Garovillo widened their lead to double figures.

Living Stones continued its surge in the second set behind Cordero and Garovillo for an early lead but USLS closed in to within 5 points. Endgame hits from Espina and Cordero closed the set.

“I am glad that we were able to sweep the USLS kasi kung hindi we are already out,” said Living Stones head coach Michael Larroza. “I was so disappointed with our last match (against Hua Ming). Good thing we were able to correct our mistakes here against USLS.”

In the other match, Aurea Alvero, KC Cortez, Yen-yen Celiz, and Pearl Denura spearheaded the attack for Tay Tung as it pestered the erring Don Bosco to clinch its fourth win in six matches.

“We joined this tournament naman talaga just to give our other players exposure,” said Tay Tung assistant coach Biboy Calamba. “This semis seat is just a bonus but our players will definitely aim for the championship even with our depleted lineup.”/PN
