BY NOW, we have read all the stories, absorbed the scientific findings – if we did, hooked on the vaccine development, listened to speculations, got bombarded with conspiracy theories, terrified to our bones, fully or slightly educated depending on our concentration and stress levels, and adjusted with the COVID-19 pandemic in our midst. Hopefully, that is.
There is no way out of the situation since the vaccine is not available yet. We must live with it while pushing the culture of safety.
I must admit that since the ECQ (enhanced community quarantine) was imposed in March, this year, I haven’t attended any birthday gathering or celebration for health and safety reasons. You can say I have missed some fun moments owing to this pandemic. However, with this stressful health concern, we also need to prioritize our engagements and activities.
I am also certain that many of our fellow Filipinos have been tested, quarantined, confined, and self-isolated for various reasons including, contracting the dreaded disease, exposure to a positive patient, travelled, locally-stranded individuals, returning overseas Filipinos, asymptomatic, and the like.
And of course, the newest stress factor for parents and students/pupils – the blended mode of learning adopted by our education department in response to this health crisis. The use of modules is a first for pupils and students. And we know for a fact that anything new has its own share of stressors. Thus, I can imagine the heightened stress levels of both parents and young kids and teens.
But that’s just the way it is. We need to adjust and cope. When we shall have gradually adjusted with the novelty of the exhausting method, it will hopefully become easier and smoother. Trust me. My graduate school methodology is also modular, haha.
Some parents have availed of the services of tutors to assist their children on the use of modules. In the past, with the traditional conduct of classes, tutors were already providing services. Thus, it’s not something new. But I venture to say that their assistance right now is more pronounced since the use of modules is something very novel. I hope that with the collaboration of the parents, tutors, and students, the learning process becomes more dynamic for the students.

Yesterday on Woman Talk, I had two pretty and driven millennials for guests. We have heard adults speak all the time at home, on TV, and on radio. So, I figured it’s time we listen to what millennials have to say. Don’t we?
Julie Ann Salcedo runs a start-up coffee business birthed during the COVID-19 pandemic. Her goal was to introduce a new normal way of drinking pure brewed coffee (sugar-free) at home for wellness’ sake since coffeeshops were out of reach at the beginning of the pandemic.
Eunoia (YOO-NUY-AH) coffee, Greek for beautiful thinking, offers premium coffee originating from the rich lands of Mindanao. The brand was conceptualized to remind end-users, that like coffee, we can release a rich aroma despite being subjected to hot water. When we are hard hit by challenges, such as this pandemic, we remind ourselves that we are resilient and come out winners anyways.
Julie’s skills in sales and marketing are honed over the years by Pfizer, Inc., Nestle Philippines, and Honda Cars General Santos. On the side, Julie hosts events.
Meanwhile, Corinne Janelle D. Yumang is a licensed dentist. She is currently on leave from her Oral Maxillofacial Residency – with just a few months to go – and presently provides services at Yumang Dental Clinic in General Santos City. Blessed with entrepreneurial skills, she also sells skincare products, being a Nuskin Social Media Partner.

After Woman Talk last Tuesday, I met with an exceptionally good friend who previously served the Armed Forces of the Philippines and retired as 1 star general. Great conversation and update with what’s happening in the company he is presently serving.
It’s really refreshing to meet friends after being disconnected because of this pandemic. To more meetings and food, haha!
