Liwag shines as CSB edges EAC in NCAA basketball

MANILA – Allen Liwag made his presence felt in the endgame as College of St. Benilde Blazers defeated Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals, 69-65, in the NCAA Season 100 men’s basketball on Sunday at the FilOil EcoOil Arena in San Juan City.

With the score tied at 62-all, Liwag surged the Blazers ahead at 65-62 via a three-point play before Winston Ynot widened the advantage to 67-62 with an inside conversion.

The Generals cut the deficit to 65-67 with a three-pointer from Gil Quinal, but two free throws from Ynot with under a minute left in the game secured the victory for the Blazers.

Liwag finished with 15 points and nine rebounds, while Ynot added 14 markers as the Blazers notched their fifth consecutive victory for an 11-2 win-loss record for first place.

“Siyempre sobrang motivated talaga akong mag-perform kasi sobrang excited ako makalaro ‘yung mga dati kong teammates,” said Liwag, who previously played for the Generals before moving to the Blazers.

Harvey Pagsanjan tallied 16 points and six rebounds to lead the Generals, while Quinal and King Gurtiza contributed 12 and 10 points, respectively, as they dropped to a 6-7 record.

Meanwhile, San Sebastian College Golden Stags (4-10) relied on a huge fourth quarter breakaway to defeat Arellano University Chiefs (5-9), 88-75.

Tristan Felebrico led the way for the Golden Stags with a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds, Nikko Aguilar added 16 markers, while Reggz Gabat and Reymart Escobido had 12 and 10 points, respectively./PN
