BACOLOD City – A localized thunderstorm late Saturday afternoon inundated several areas here and triggered evacuation.
City disaster cluster head Joemarie Vargas said they immediately mobilized teams after the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) issued an advisory that the city and other nearby areas would experience moderate to heavy rains.
Several families, especially those living near the city’s main waterways, were immediately evacuated. The areas included barangays Alijis, Tangub, Montevista, and Sum-ag.
Flooding was also reported in barangays Pahanocoy, Mandalagan and Mansilingan.
In Barangay Sum-ag, floodwater was reported to be “chest-deep” and forced 12 families to spend the night at the barangay’s covered court.
Vargas said the city’s Department of Social Services and Development distributed food packs to the families and set up camping tents./PN
