‘Love triangle’ behind Panitan man fatal shooting?

ROXAS City – “Love triangle” might be the motive in the fatal shooting at a waiting shed in Barangay Lanot last Friday, according to Roxas City police station head Superintendent Dante Tayco.

Police arrested the 33-year-old Erwin Belo in a hot pursuit operation around 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, almost 16 hours after he alleged shot the 38-year-old Jorly Vim (not Jurvlyn as previously reported) Clavaton of Panitan, Capiz.

Clavaton – who sustained a gunshot wound on the arm – was pronounced dead at the Capiz Doctor’s Hospital a few hours after he was shot around 7 p.m. on Aug. 31.

Belo – who was caught in Barangay Agbabadiang, Panitan – had an illicit affair with Clavaton’s wife Erna for almost a year, Tayco said.

Erna told the police that she had split up with Belo a long time ago.

She added since then, Belo has been harassing her that’s why she filed a case with the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group.

This makes Belo the prime suspect in killing Clavaton, according to Tayco.

Erna said she did not expect that Belo would ever thought of killing her husband.

Belo works as a driver of Ceres Liner buses. He has two kids but is separated from his wife.

Clavaton and Erna, on the other hand, have three children.

Officers from the Roxas City police station are also investigating if Erna had involvement in the death of her husband.

Clavaton and Erna were waiting for a passenger vehicle to take them home when the shooting happened. The couple just got off from a Ceres bus from Iloilo City at the time, police said.

“Belo used a superior weapon against the victim. We will file murder charges against the suspect on Monday,” Tayco said./PN
