SATURDAYS are my extra special days because the days prior, I devote sufficient time, resources, and preparation for an hour-long talk show that I make sure entertains, educates, and engages my audience.
Saturdays are distinctive days when I can be my most authentic self – not that I am not authentic on other days, haha; but you know, I can be a smartass; my sharpest; persuasive; argumentative; a sentimental fool; a consummate communicator – pardon the swank; and simply be chic in my favorite denim shorts topped by whatever fancies me on my radio talk show! Talk about authenticity and you get it all there!
When I arrived in Bohol in August, producing the talk show was foremost in my mind but I must thank Hezekiah Kit for making it happen because at the time, there were still a lot of kinks to iron out. I needed the push.
My weeks are quite full since September. I invite guests for the talk show which is quite stimulating, write my weekly column – ahead of deadline on most days, negotiate with possible sponsors, record – yup another satisfying activity, drive which I enjoy immensely especially along the delightful coastline of Bohol, go on short or long trips to visit family relations, visit the cemetery which always brings me comfort, watch movies – oh, how I love movies, among other things.
It’s not all fancy though, I also do household chores, if you must know. I’m also invested in the dreams and aspirations of family members including my own. What would life be without our dreams and aspirations, huh! They are the drivers that impel us to move forward, steady on, and become better versions of ourselves. Napoleon Hill said it right: “Cherish your visions and your dreams as they are the children of your soul, the blueprints of your ultimate achievements.”
Woman Talk has given me the glitz and blitz and the greatest pleasure to meet and engage new people, and friends from my younger life – people who make our lives better by learning with them, listening to them, and picking their brains.
Here’s hoping for more wonderful Saturdays to engage you authentically, brag a little, haha, smile profusely, dance with panache, and laugh with total abandon!

Missing John Paul
John Paul Jubelag is one good friend that “sticketh closer than a brother.” He was one man I became remarkably close to in General Santos City over the years. We had so many stories together ranging from the heart to politics and whatnot. Our deep friendship quickly embraced his entire family – a bonus since I don’t have a biological family in my adoptive city.
He told me many stories – some hilarious; some thought-provoking; others sad and sentimental; and others of betrayal. Don’t we all have stories of betrayal.
He was bigger than life and had the biggest laugh and snore, haha! I wish he didn’t leave so quick – it’s just a damn loss for those who loved him.
I remember a big part of my coping when he passed was staying away from his home, so I won’t feel the utter loss. I wanted to preserve the thought that he would always be there when I visit. It took me some time to visit the house again – many thanks to his daughter, July Pearl, whom I reconnected with through his younger brother Jerard, who organized a public speaking class pushing me to come to terms with his death. Everything must come full circle at one point or another in our lives.
I miss you John Paul, I really miss you, man.
