AIR travelers should expect lower fares next month after the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) downgraded the fuel surcharge level for July.
From Level 6, CAB will lower the fuel surcharge to Level 5 from July 1 to 31, 2024.
This means fuel surcharge will range from P151 to P542 for domestic flights in July, down from the current P185 to P665.
For international flights, fuel surcharge will range from as much as P500 to P3,700, down from the current P4,500.
Fuel surcharge is an optional fee, apart from the base fare, that airlines may pass on to passengers to recover costs incurred due to the volatility of jet fuel.
The CAB adjusts fuel surcharges in relation to the price movement of jet fuel.
This June, fuel surcharge remained at Level 6 for the fourth consecutive month, when flight demand went up as students go on academic break.
CAB decided to keep the pass-on rate the same even though prices of jet fuel went down in May based on the monitor of the International Air Transport Association. (GMA Integrated News)
