FEBRUARY is not off to a good start for consumers as the price of cooking gas climbed for the second month in a row.
In an advisory, Petron Corp. said it implemented an increase of P0.95 per kilogram in liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices on Thursday, Feb. 1.
This is equivalent to an increase of P10.45 per 11-kilogram tank.
“This reflects the international contract price of LPG for the month of February,” Petron said on Thursday morning.
Solane-branded LPGs were priced higher by P0.91 per kilogram.
Last month, consumers welcomed the new year with a hefty price increase of up to P3.45 per kilo, or P37.95 per tank.
Data from the Department of Energy show that prevailing LPG prices in Metro Manila as of end-2023 ranged from P875 to P1,060 per cylinder.
Meanwhile, DOE reminded consumers to replace substandard and dilapidated LPG cylinders before Jan. 7, 2025.
Failure to do so may result in criminal charges as prescribed by Republic Act (RA) 11592 (LPG Industry Regulation Act).
Rusty tanks and unbranded LPG cylinders are considered substandard.
The DOE said consumers may bring their dilapidated LPG cylinders to authorized LPG distributors and refillers for free replacement. (Meg J. Adonis © Philippine Daily Inquirer)
