MANILA – The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) announced yesterday that pets are now allowed in public modes of transportation.
In a Memorandum Circular (MC) No. 2011-004 with MC 2019-019, LTFRB changed its stand and now allows pets to be transported via public utility vehicles (PUV) if these provisions are followed:
1. Animals must be put inside carriers or cages and placed at a designated animal compartment of the PUV should there be other passengers inside the vehicle.
2. If there are no other passengers, pets are allowed to be carried by the owner as long as they are free from foul odor and the owner maintains cleanliness and sanitation.
3. Pet owners will be held responsible for the damage the animal may cause, including cleaning and sanitation of the PUV.
4. Safety, convenience, and comfort of the passengers shall not in any way be sacrificed.
The measure took effect following the publication in general circulation and after filing 3 copies with the University of the Philippines Law Center. /PN
