LTFRB: No show-cause for PUJs in WV

BY JEN BAYLON

ILOILO City – The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Region 6 has confirmed that no show-cause orders were issued to transport groups in Western Visayas following the three-day nationwide transport strike last week.

According to Atty. Salvador Altura, legal counsel for LTFRB-6, there was no reported participation of public utility jeepney (PUJ) cooperatives or corporations in the strike. The placard-bearing rally did not constitute a transport strike based on their adherence to guidelines, he added.

The transport protest on Nov. 20 to Nov. 22 was organized against the impending Dec. 31 deadline for the consolidation of traditional PUJs into cooperatives or corporations.

Altura also emphasized that the LTFRB had close coordination with the traffic departments of various cities and provincial governments in Western Visayas, and no reports or documentation of any disruptions were recorded.

Moreover, the legal counsel clarified that the suspension of operations in Capiz province was not connected to the transport strike but was due to flooding brought about by a shear line.

While those who participate in a transport strike risk having their provisional authority canceled, the LTFRB-6 assures the public that there are currently no plans to do so in Western Visayas./PN
