MANILA – Two more standouts from Santa Clarita International School Primes are headed to Manila with the commitment of John Patino and John Nayr Magarse to the Lyceum of the Philippines Junior Pirates in NCAA juniors basketball.
Primes head coach Rodel Camacho told Panay News yesterday that the 6-foot-4 Patino and 5-foot-8 Magarse were personally recruited by Pirates head coach Michael “Topex” Robinson.
“It was an assistant coach from Lyceum who discovered the two,” Camacho said. “I think (Lyceum) were playing in (University Games) when one of coach Topex’s assistants held a training session with my players.”
“When coach Topex learned of it, he personally talked to the two and have secured their commitment,” he added. “They were two of my hard working players in the team so I am glad that they will fulfill their dreams of playing in Manila via Lyceum.”
Patino and Magarse’s commitment to the Junior Pirates came a day after Primes’ 6-foot-5 center Rogelle Alvaladejo and 6-foot-1 guard Michael Jose Jayme were recruited by the University of Santo Tomas Tiger Cubs.
Patino and Magarse will join former Primes players who are playing in NCAA in Ralph Bajon of the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals and Franc Steven Tono of the Letran Junior Knights.
Aside from Alvaladejo and Jayme, there were two more former Santa Clarita players who are in UAAP. John Bryan Sajonia plays for the Far Eastern University Tamaraws and Marc Jimenez for FEU Baby Tamaraws./PN
