BACOLOD City – The mother of the suspect in the death of a 15-year-old lad at the Bacolod Government Center (BGC) grounds on Sunday night insisted that her son had no hand in the crime.
The police arrested the wrong person, claimed Aileen Datulayta, mother of 21-year-old Jorebel Datulayta.
Jorebel himself claimed he never sent a message to their group chat on Facebook Messenger asking alleged fellow gang members as to where they were as they had already stabbed one person.
His mother made a tearful plea to whoever she believed was the real culprit to surrender to the police.
Her son, she said, was their family’s sole breadwinner and helping her raise his three younger siblings.
Aileen also asked the National Bureau of Investigation to conduct a separate probe of the BGC brawl and urged the city government to hand over a copy of the close circuit television footage of the incident.
She expressed confidence that the video footage would show her son’s innocence and pinpoint the real killer.
On Sunday, 15-year-old Yeshua John Torres was stabbed dead during a brawl between rival gangs at the BGC grounds.
