ILOILO – To boost the frontliners’ trust on vaccines against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), Mayor Francis Amboy of Maasin town announced his willingness to be publicly inoculated.

“If ever may ara na vaccines, ako ang una para maging ehemplo ako nga indi sila mahadlok,” Aboy said in an interview with Panay News.

The mayor said he prefers any vaccine brand, noting that these anti-COVID shots in the market have been guaranteed by experts and authorized by the Food and Drug Administration.

Amboy also encouraged all members of the Sangguniang Bayan to get vaccinated.

On Monday, the municipality conducted a vaccine consultation among its frontliners. These included employees of the Municipal Health Office, General Services Office, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine National Police, Barangay Health Workers, among others.

Out of our 40,000 population, 12,280 ang amon estimated number of frontliners. Amo na ang unahon namon [vaccinate]. Pero sang nagkonseho ko kag napamangkot kon sin-o mapabakuna daw almost five percent lang nagbayaw sang kamot, siguro nakulbaan pa sila,” Amboy shared.

He wanted to encourage these frontliners.

“Kon makita nila nga kita mauna, madula naman ila pangduha-duha,” he added.

The local government unit initially allocated P2.5 million for the procurement of vaccines, Amboy revealed, but he is ready to add more fund should people signify their willingness to be vaccinated.
