MANILA – Has the wife of former Iloilo City mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog been offered to run for public office in 2019?
“I am not at liberty to talk about it,” Maria Victoria Mabilog told Panay News.
Last year Mabilog, his wife and their two children left the country after President Rodrigo Duterte threatened the ex-mayor he was the next target in the government campaign against illegal drugs.
“Is Iloilo City worth the risk? Must I put it ahead of my family? I must ask those questions first,” she Mrs. Mabilog.
In December 2017, Mrs. Mabilog said she was open to the idea of going into politics but the decision was not hers to make alone.
“Neither would it be Jed’s only. It will be up to our two children,” she said.
She has many things to consider before running for local office, stressed Mrs. Mabilog.
Duterte tagged her husband a drug protector, a charge that the former mayor denied.
TREÑAS’ CHOICES FOR CONGRESSMAN
Meanwhile, Cong. Jerry Treñas said aside from Mayor Jose Espinosa III, he is eyeing former councilors Nielex “Lex” Tupas and Julienne “Jam” Baronda as possible candidates for congressman in next year’s election.
Treñas is ending his third consecutive term as congressman next year and three months ago said he may run for mayor of Iloilo City in 2019.
Treñas, council president of the ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino – Lakas ng Bayan, said a final decision on the party’s bet for congressman will be made by “June or July.”
“Damo pa pwede matabo,” he told Panay News.
Tupas thanked the Ilonggo congressman for the trust and confidence in his leadership.
“Pero wala pa man sang pinal nga desisyon. Politics will have its time,” he said.
The ex-councilor said he prays “for what is best for Iloilo City.”
Baronda, meanwhile, said she was “happy,” “honored” and “humbled” for being considered as a possible candidate for congressman.
“I welcome this development,” she said.
Monday last week, Vice Mayor Jeffrey Ganzon said he accepted Treñas’ offer to be his vice mayor next year./PN
