Macau upsets Alab Pilipinas in ASEAN caging

MANILA – Macau Wolf Warriors pulled off a stunning 98-93 victory over San Miguel-Alab Pilipinas in the ASEAN Basketball League Season 10 at the San Juan Arena.

The Wolf Warriors escaped with the victory following a three-pointer by Julian Boyd and a tough basket from Doug Herring that shattered the 91-all score with over two minutes left.

Herring and Boyd had 21 points each for the Wolf Warriors on Sunday night with the former grabbing 10 boards while the latter gobbling 12 rebounds as the Wolf Warriors improved to 2-4 record.

Steven Thomas, who previously played as import in the PBA, had 10 points and 12 rebounds, while Chen Cai and Scott Ewing also stepped up with 15 and 13 points, respectively.

“I have the ultimate respect for Filipino basketball. They have passionate fans and how hard they play. Going here and beating a Filipino team feels really good. It’s a good win for our organization after a difficult year last year,” said Macau head coach Todd Purves.

Nick King had 33 points, 12 rebounds, four assists, and a block, while Sam Deguara and Khalif Wyatt struggled with the former only had four points and seven rebounds and the latter shot just 3-of-12 from the field for 15 markers.

Lawrence Domingo and Jeremiah Gray chipped in 11 and 10 markers respectively while Jason Brickman had nine assists and seven points but committed four turnovers as the Philippine team dropped to 4-2./PN
