“PINOY Big Brother: Otso” host Bianca Gonzalez took to social media to share her thoughts on being dark-skinned, debunking claims by whitening brands that they are pitiful.
In a series of tweets, Gonzalez said while she has no problem with people who want lighter skin, she does have a problem with whitening brands making those with darker skin look pitiful.
“There is no problem AT ALL sa mga gustong magpaputi. The problem is when whitening brands make us look “kaawa awa” dahil lang maitim kami. Kasi, hindi po kami kawawa, maganda ang kulay namin,” she tweeted.
Gonzalez added she grew up loving her skin color because of people like Angel Aquino and Tweetie de Leon, who “proudly flaunted their brown skin.”
“I looked up to them. I did not need to compare myself to fair skinned girls. It need not be a “battle” of maitim versus maputi,” she also said.
She, likewise, added she will teach her daughters that there is nothing wrong with them being brown-skinned.
“When they grow up, choice nila kung magpapa-tan or magpapaputi sila. But what I will teach them is that being brown is not something “shameful”, and being brown is not something that makes them less beautiful than others.❤,” Gonzales said.
Gonzalez has two daughters with her husband, basketball player JC Intal.
She has been vocal with her love for her natural skin color. Back in 2017, Gonzales expressed sadness at how some morena celebrities choose to endorse whitening products. (ABS-CBN News)
