MANILA – Magnolia Chicken Timplados Hotshots continued its hot streak in the 2022 PBA Philippine Cup with a 97-88 overtime win against Meralco Bolts last night at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.
After failing to close out the Bolts in regulation, the Hotshots started the overtime with a three-pointer from Aris Dionisio and a putback by Ian Sangalang for a 91-86 lead.
The Bolts got free throw hits from Raymond Almazan but the Hotshots also got charity hits from Andy Mark Barroca, Calvin Abueva and Paul Lee to widen the lead to nine points.
Lee top-scored with 21 points, including four triples, while Barroca added 20 markers, six assists and five steals as the Hotshots cruised to its fifth straight win for a 6-3 win-loss slate.
Jiovani Jalalon added 19 points and eight assists, Sangalang had double-double 12 points and 15 rebounds, while Dionisio ended up with 10 markers for the Hotshots.
Chris Newsome tallied 24 markers, while Kier John Quinto and Aaron Black chipped in 15 markers apiece as the Bolts dropped to 5-4 win-loss slate.
In the first game, NLEX Road Warriors (5-5) limited Blackwater Bossing (5-4) to just two points in the first quarter en route to a 98-68 domination to snap its three-game slide.
Bacolodnon Justin Chua ignited a 9-0 start by the Road Warriors with a three-pointer and an inside hit before the Bossing scored its first basket of the game courtesy of Yousef Taha.
The Road Warriors then unloaded 22 straight points courtesy of Calvin Oftana, Celedonio Trollano and JR Quiñahan to widen the gap to 31-2 and never looked back.
Trollano finished the game with 16 points, Oftana chipped in 15 markers, while Chua, Quiñahan and Aklanon Kris Rosales contributed 12, 11 and 10, respectively, for NLEX.
