Magnolia wallops TNT, stays unbeaten in PBA

MANILA – Magnolia Chicken Timplados Hotshots continued its perfect run in the 2023 PBA on Tour following a 96-63 domination over TNT Tropang Giga last night at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

Rome Adler dela Rosa carried the scoring chores for the Hotshots with 19 points, including three outside connections, while Joseph Eriobu added 14 markers as they surged to 5-0 win-loss slate.

James Laput contributed double-double 11 points and 13 rebounds, while Andy Mark Barroca, Jerrick Ahanmisi and David Murrell also hit double-digits in scoring with 11 each for Magnolia.

After trailing 15-18 at the end of first quarter, the Hotshots went to work in the second period behind the hot shooting of Dela Rosa and Eriobu as they established a 43-31 halftime lead.

The Tropang Giga attempted to make a run in the third quarter but the Hotshots had a quick response from Barroca, Laput, Ahanmisi and Murrell as they build the largest lead at 33 points.

Glenn Khobuntin top-scored for the Tropang Giga with 23 points, with three outside hits, Carl Bryan Cruz added 11 markers, while Negrense Paul Varilla ended with 10 points. They dropped to 0-3 record.

In the first game, Terrafirma Dyip rode on the hot hands of Juan Miguel Tiongson as they score a lopsided 110-96 victory over NLEX Road Warriors. The Dyip improved to 2-3 slate, while the Road Warriors slumped to 1-4.

Tiongson caught fire in the third quarter as he drained 13 points as Terrafirma turned a 53-52 halftime deficit to an 85-76 advantage entering the fourth quarter before the Road Warriors threatened to within 80-85 via back-to-back baskets by Aklanon Kris Rosales.

The Dyip, however, responded with seven straight points from George Isaac Go, Eric Camson and Tiongson for a 92-80, which later grew to its largest at 104-85 on back-to-back connections by Tiongson.

Tiongson finished with 37 points, including seven three-point conversions, Angelo Alolino and Aklanon Andreas Cahilig added 14 and 13 points, respectively, while Camson and Allen Mina had 12 each for the Dyip.
