BACOLOD City – The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) is requesting the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), the City Engineer’s Office and Rep. Greg Gasataya to re-inspect the structural integrity of the new flyover at the intersection of Magsaysay and Araneta streets.
The SP wanted to make sure that the flyover is safe to use.
Some motorists have observed that the structure have incurred bulges allegedly caused by the heavy load it carries.
Councilor Ricardo Tan, who authored a resolution directing the flyover’s reassessment, said the issue has already circulated on social media and caused “fear” among the public.
“For the sake of public safety and to ease up the commuting public, it [is] imperative that a certain team of structural engineers and other experts, specifically the engineers of the DPWH, should be requested or commissioned to test and check the structural integrity of the said flyover, in order to insure the safety and security of the commuting public,” part of Tan’s resolution stated.
The flyover is the second of its kind in the city. It was inaugurated on Dec. 19 last year.
The first flyover – inaugurated on Aug. 19, 2011 – is located on Lacson-Circumferential road in Barangay Bata./PN
