MANILA – Bacolod-Master Sardines continued its stumble in the 2019-2020 Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Lakan Cup. It suffered an 85-74 loss to Davao Occidental Tigers over the weekend at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City.
The Bacolodnons had no match to the powerhouse roster of the reigning MPBL runner-ups. They were dominated from start to finish to suffer a fourth defeat in six matches.
The Tigers immediately made its presence felt in the opening quarter. It surged to a 19-8 edge.
Bacolod gained some headways in the second period. It cut the deficit to 32-40 at the half.
However, it was all Tigers in the second half with contributions from James Forrester and Marco Balagtas. The lead reached its largest at 73-53 at the onset of the fourth period.
Forrester had his best showing since joining the 5-1 Tigers this season with 16 points. Balagtas also contributed the same output.
Ilonggo Billy Ray Robles had double-double 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Davaoenos.
Negrense Mark Yee of Tigers missed a rebound away from achieving yet another milestone as he posted double-double of 16 points and 15 rebounds. He was one rebound short of registering at least 500 points and 500 rebounds in the league.
John Paul Cauilan top-scored with 20 points, while Mark Jayven Tallo and Jopher Custodioo added 12 and 11 markers, respectively, for the slumping Bacolodnons./PN
