Majority of Iloilo voters young

ILOILO – Of the combined 1,628,752 registered voters in Iloilo city and province, 963,532 are aged between 18 to 44 years old, according to the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

To them, and especially to first-time voters, Comelec provincial election supervisor Atty. Ian Lee Ananoria had an invocation – vote wisely.

Your future rests on your vote, he stressed.

The synchronized national and local elections are on May 9.

As early as now, according to Ananoria, voters should know their voting precincts, especially the newly registered.

Those who do not have access to the internet may check with their local election offices.

Iloilo City has a total of 330,470 registered voters while Iloilo province has 1,298,282.

Here’s the breakdown of the young voters by age group:

  • 18 to 19 years old – 72,346 voters
  • 20 to 24 years old – 206,549 voters
  • 25 to 29 years old – 195,984 voters
  • 30 to 34 years old – 181,860 voters
  • 35 to 39 years old – 159,770 voters
  • 40 to 44 years old – 76,782 voters

    “Yes, median age subong sang mga botante very, very young. I think 24 to 25 years old. So, please vote early, temprano pa kamo. You can use the precinct finder to check your precinct number. May voters’ assistance desks man kami,” said Ananoria.
    Outside of the youth voting age, here’s the breakdown of voters totaling 458,451:
  • 45 t 49 years old – 129,383 voters
  • 50 to 54 years old – 121,608 voters
  • 54 to 59 years old – 111,533 voters
  • 60 to 64 years old – 96,451 voters

    The “senior voters” (65 years old and above), on the other hand, totaled 204,835.

    “Please vote responsibly. You’re voting for your future,” said Ananoria.

    Comelec data also showed more female voters in Iloilo – 926,240 or 50.73 percent.

    Ananoria sees a high 85 percent voter turnout on May 9 “considering nga kainit sang election.”

    “(But) mas nami gid ‘ya ang 100 percent of course,” he said.

    1st District (228, 690 voters)
  • Guimbal (24,008), Igbaras (20,386), Miag-ao (40,218), Oton (52,518), San Joaquin (31,964), Tigbauan (40,713), and Tubungan (14,640)
    2nd District (222,230 voters)
  • Alimodian (25,571), Leganes (25,332), Leon (33,324), New Lucena (17,052), Pavia (39,084), San Miguel (20,676), Santa Barbara (18,852), and Zarraga (18,852)
    3rd District (273,797 voters)
  • Badiangan (17,360), Bingawan (10,083), Cabatuan (36,656), Calinog (41,679), Janiuay (41,545), Lambunao (40,788), Maasin (15,593), Mina (15,593), and Pototan (45,338)
    4th District (261,174 voters)
  • Anilao (19,175), Banate (23,179), Barotac Nuevo (38,358), Dingle (28,253), Dueñas (22,474), Dumangas (49,775), Passi City (59,395), and San Enrique (23,565).
    5fth District (312,391 voters)
  • Ajuy (35,248), Balasan (22,797), Barotac Viejo (31,367), Batad (15,490), Carles (48,727), Concepcion (28,525), Estancia (34,798), Lemery (21,732), San Dionisio (25,819), San Rafael (12,154), and Sara (35,734).
