BACOLOD City – All government hospitals were ordered to make doctors and medical and support staff available 24/7.

Personnel must be ready to take in clients, especially “in local and government hospitals that either do not have or merely being visited by medical professionals,” according to the Department of Health.

The directive was contained in a Feb. 17 memo that Undersecretary Herminigildo Valle issued to Dr. Maria Rosario Vergeire, officer-in-charge of the department’s Health Facilities and Services Regulatory Bureau.

The memo was a response to the complaint that a resident of Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental dished out against the Lorenzo Zayco District Hospital in the component city.

Nancy Pajarillo asked the anticrime group Task Force Crusaders to help seek justice for her daughter, who she claimed died due to the alleged negligence of the district hospital’s personnel.

Pajarillo claimed there was no pediatrician available when she brought her 7-year-old daughter to the district hospital in December last year.

They were referred to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital here but the child died on the way there.

Pajarillo’s daughter died of “pediatric community-acquired pneumonia and acute gastroenteritis with severe dehydration.”

In a separate memo, Valle referred Pajarillo’s complaint to Vergeire’s office “for appropriate action.”/PN
