SAN JOSE, Antique – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) here will temporarily close the Malandog Bridge due to rehabilitation works.
According to DPWH project engineer Ricardo Gayatin, the closure will start on July 26 to Aug. 4.
“This is in line with the on-going widening project of the said bridge. The project contractor will be launching four girders of the bridge to their final position during the duration of the closure,” he said.
Gayatin appealed to the public for understanding as the project may cause road inconveniences.
He also advised motorists to take alternative routes.
“All southbound vehicles from San Jose de Buenavista to Iloilo or Anini-y are advised to pass through Atabay-Inabasan-Malandog road vice-versa. All southbound vehicles coming from the northern part of Antique, meanwhile, are advised to pass through Sibalom – Egaña – Hamtic road vice-versa,” he said.
Each girder of the bridge, according to Gayatin, weights 48 tons or 48, 000 kilos.
“We also urged the contractor to make their work accurate and fast. Our target is to open the bridge before August 4,” he said./PN
